An antioxidant can simply be described as something that stops oxidation. Antioxidants destroy the free radicals that destroy the cells in the body. They help to prevent tissue damage due to aging. Antioxidants help to keep the body healthy, young and active. They lower the risk of heart attacks. They help to improve the immune system. They also help to prevent Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes, glaucoma and macular degeneration. It is essential to get enough antioxidants for the body. Benefits of antioxidant vitamins and foods are quite impressive.

Fruits and vegetables are rich in antioxidants. Vitamin A, C, E and beta carotenes are rich are antioxidants.

Vitamin A

Vitamin A is an important anti aging antioxidant. It helps to prevent skin damage skin damage and also restores it. Vitamin A is a fat soluble vitamin. Foods that are rich in vitamin A are liver, red pepper, chili powder, sweet potatoes, carrots, lettuce and apricots.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is another important antioxidant which helps to prevent collagen from being destroyed by UV rays. This vitamin is most useful when used along with vitamin E. Some of the foods rich in vitamin E are mustard greens, spinach, papaya, broccoli, olive oil, almonds and wheat.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is an antioxidant which is water soluble. Foods which are rich in vitamin C are chili peppers, broccoli, cauliflower, guava, papayas, oranges, strawberries and grape fruit.

Resveratrol

Resveratrol is a water soluble antioxidant. It is found in abundant quantities in red wine, grapes, blueberries and peanuts. Resveratrol is also very good nutrient.

Beta carotenes

Beta carotenes are a member of the group of substances called carotenoids. Carotenoids are pigments which provide color to the vegetables and fruits. Beta carotenes are converted in to vitamin A by the body which is an antioxidant. Foods containing beta carotenes are sweet potato, turnip greens, carrots, lettuce and collards.

Having aloe vera juice with the anti oxidants helps in increase their absorption. It is necessary to make antioxidants a part of our daily diet. The process of aging starts at 30. Antioxidants slowdown this process. They also help to prevent cancer. It has been shown that if two or more antioxidants are taken together their effectiveness increases. Examples are calcium and vitamin D, vitamin C and vitamin E.
